Kindergarten
Kindergarten at Hilltop Baptist School is a full day programfo.  Children must be 5 years old by September 30, 2009 to enroll. We recognize that kindergarten is generally a child’s first exposure to school life, so our goal is to make it a positive experience in a loving, nurturing environment.  Students learn reading, writing and arithmetic, but also learn skills that equip them to interact with teachers and peers appropriately.  Along with opportunities for various interactive and hands-on activities within the classroom, kindergarten students are offered enrichment activities such as art, music, P.E. and, of course, recess.  We take a very aggressive, phonetic approach to reading in Kindergarten, and most students are reading books by mid-year. Math is taught with the use of manipulatives, so conceptual, as well as factual, learning happens.  Units on cultural studies are taught throughout the year. Kindergarten also participates daily in elementary chapel, as well as having Bible class. The grand finale of the year is a full graduation program for the kindergarten students.  Their participation in other musical programs during the year is great preparation for this grand event!  They truly revel in the year’s accomplishments!

Elementary
First through sixth grades are designated as elementary grades at Hilltop Baptist School.  All subjects are taught from a Christian perspective, with frequent Biblical references.  Along with a strong emphasis on reading, phonics and math, first through third grade students begin developing composition skills by learning proper mechanics and applying those skills in creative writing. These students learn critical thinking skills through interactive classroom activities and are introduced to studies in history and science; math concepts are taught in conjunction with facts.  Our goal in fourth through sixth grade is to teach these students to integrate core knowledge and apply the foundations of learning to all subjects. Along with reading comprehension and grammar, expressive writing becomes a focus of the language arts, through both creative writing and research projects. By building precept on precept, mathematics moves at an aggressive pace.  History and science are part of the daily class schedule.  These students have opportunity throughout the year to have hands-on experience in the science lab. All elementary grades have opportunity to participate in classes for Bible, music, art, P.E. and computer, as well as daily chapel and recess.
